It all began Feb 9, 1958 . . . On February 9th 1958 God placed a burden on the heart of David Wilkerson to focus on prayer and spend less time watching TV. He put an advertisement in the newspaper to sell his TV and prayed, "Lord, that if it sells in the first 30 minutes after the newspapers hit homes, I will know it is You truly speaking to me." |
Before 30 minutes had passed, David Wilkerson received a call and sold his TV. This was the beginning of 19 days of prayer that laid the foundation for a trip to New York City that led to the birth of Teen Challenge.

One day, as, David Wilkerson flipped open the pages of the February 24th edition of LIFE Magazine, the story of 7 boys on trial for the murder of Michael Farmer a handicapped boy caught his attention. As David Wilkerson read this story, the Lord spoke to him, "Go help those boys."
He decided to drive to New York City and go to the trial. On February 28, David stood in the courtroom on a mission from the Lord. He would not back down from the call and I believe it was on that day that the Lord confirmed that helping the boys in the gangs was his assignment. |

From that day, the Spirit of the Lord began to establish Teen Challenge in the heart of his servant, David Wilkerson. I believe each and every leader of Teen Challenge around the world can have a moment like this, that moment when the Spirit of God speaks clearly to them about God's call to "help those boys." | Teen Challenge Southeast Region is hosting a Prayer Summit On February 9-11. |
Leaders from around the world will gather to pray and reaffirm the roots of this ministry. Rev Don Wilkerson will be the keynote speaker on Feb 9, and will kick off prayer, worship and intercession 24 hours a day through noon on Monday, February 11. International House of Prayer teams will provide a worship team to lead us between our times of preaching and prayer proclamations, along with Teen Challenge music teams and leaders. We want to encourage partners to use this as a launching point for 19 days of prayer. There will be intercessory prayer focuses and prayers of proclamation for each of the following 19 days. |

When I shared this vision with one of my staff, he responded, "Count me in."
I want to know, "Can I count you in on this special prayer emphasis?"
As we turn our hearts to God as our founders did, perhaps we too need to consider asking God to reveal distractions ... TV, Facebook, Internet, anything that may be between us and the next great vision. |
