REPORT ON UGANDA AND SAFELY HOME
|
Daily Press PHOTO NDoP
 |
It was wonderful to get safely home. We we are truly grateful for your prayers. We returned to Virginia to join 126 congregations who gathered at Christopher Newport University for the Tidewater expression of the NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER. Seeing God move so powerfully in Africa, I was honored to lead prayer at NDoP, interceding for Crusades, evangelism, and outreach to the nations. This week we were blessed as the Holy Spirit really moved at the 95th Potomac District Council of the Assemblies of God. A fast repack and I am now in Haiti then Puerto Rico. Poland inJuly. |

MIRACLES IN THE KOMOJA SLUM |
 |
The TC director Didas and Joseph, a Uganda Teen Challenge student, led us through streams of human waste and maze of narrow passages to the Malua dens of the Komoja slum. Arriving,
I
was greeted by a machete wielding security guard.
 |
 |
As he waved his machete, he reminded me that he wanted to hear nothing of my Msungu (white man's) God. It did not scare us off. As missionaries we go, not just where we are invited, but where God sends us. Amidst the despair, pain and squalor, I truly had a sense that we were walking the path where Jesus would have walked. We prayed for men who tearfully confided that Malua was the only cure for their hopelessness. Malua, a highly hallucinogenic "porridge" made of fermented millet and formaldehyde, is shared in the communal pot below. Straws clogged, they blow back into the pot and the death in the pot is magnified as, through cracked lips, they share contagious diseases. |
 |
 |
The same security guard, an hour later, after seeing us praying for addicts, asked us to pray that God could change his life.
He is going to come into Uganda Teen Challenge. |

MALUA -made from Fermented Millet and formaldehyde is highly intoxicating.
Often shared in a communal pot through straws they share disease and death in a desperate attempt mask their pain.

Uganda, nicknamed the Pearl of Africa, is a relatively young equatorial nation situated in the western part of East Africa bordered by Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Tanzania, and
Kenya.
A protectorate of the British in 1894, they received independence in 1962. In many ways, Uganda is seen as a light in the midst of eastern Africa because of its
relative economic and social success. Their graduates will evangelize this region of Africa!
 |
Executive Director Darryl Woodson launched a Fresh Start Recovery Center over a decade ago. After visits by Floyd Miles, Mike Zello and myself they joined the Global Teen Challenge family. In partnership with Chris Hodges and Teen Challenge Pacific Northwest in the USA, Uganda has a thriving men's home, crisis centers, ministry points and vision to launch a women's home and is experiencing accelerated growth! THE SEARCH FOR TRUE NORTH
You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free. - John 8:32
|
MAGNETIC
DECLINATION MAP
|
|
|
|
Flying the hundreds of thousands of miles that we travel, I enjoy talking to pilots. A Delta pilot shared with me that one great challenge in transatlantic travel is navigation. On a boat they can take a fix on the North Star but at 600 mph at 30,000 feet, a danger is magnetic declination. This is the variation between magnetic north (the direction the end of a compass needle points) and true north. The subtle variation of coordinates based on a compass reading that appears to point north may take you on a 1000 mile detour. |

ACTIVE MAP |
Please click the interactive map to get an idea of the challenge of discovering true North. Try to follow the zero declination line and you will see the difficulties of tracking true north. IF this is true of the navigation of a vehicle, vessel or aircraft, how much more important that we have a handle on navigation for our lives!
It is critical that we, as believers, have a "fix" on the true North of God's will. If the subtle magnetic variation on the terrestrial plane can detour a journey, how much more the pervasive influence of culture, Satanic interference and the relentless opposition of self can exert to divert us from God's purposes (cont) |

STREET MINISTRY- UGANDA |
HOOP CHALLENGE BASKETBALL CAMP |
|

 |
Darryl Woodson and Didas leaders of Uganda Teen Challenge booked a busy week of outreach from church, to streets, and Hoop Challenge basketball camps. On the left, Darryl challenges a gang leader on the street in Kisenyi with the claims of the Gospel.
Uganda Teen Challenge has established crisis centers and outreach points around the city of Kampala where they are actively engaging, addicts and marginalized people with the gospel.
We had a wonderful time helping TC Uganda to organize and launch their choir as we did church services and outreach on the street. Literally hundreds came to know Jesus Christ in Kampala, Uganda

1)We saw God move powerfully in Kampala, Uganda. They scheduled an exciting collection of TC, church and outreach meetings as well as Hoop Challenge. 2) Please pray for safe travel and open doors as Ramon Rosa and I head to Port-au-Prince, Haiti to continue to solidify preparations and logistics for the Jimmy Jack/Haiti Teen Challenge ... Hope and Destiny Crusade.
3) Please pray for the move of God in Africa. Interactive at map to the left shows you the emerging vision for Teen Challenge in Africa. There are exciting open doors in Nigeria, Ghana, Burkina Faso and Rwanda.
4) Please pray for the Potomac District Council of the Assemblies of God. The 95th district Council was a wonderful time of ministry and a new leadership team was identified to engage the needs of hundreds of churches ministering to millions of people from the nation's Capital and throughout the mid-Atlantic region.
5) When we returned from Africa, there was a recorded message on my phone from Lebanon. a man who is working with addicts. He had read The Cross and the Switchblade and was requesting help to start Teen Challenge in Lebanon. Pray God will open doors for the gospel.
6) Please pray for us as we seek guidance to chose wisely with so many pending invitations for the fall ... we want to be where the Lord wants us, doing the work Global Teen Challenge needs to be done. Pray about invitations to Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, South Africa, Pakistan, Ethiopia, and Australia.
7) CALLING ALL INTERCESSORS-there is a clarion call for prayer and repentance going across the land.
What began as a spontaneous response to the Holy Spirit is beginning to take form--One Nation Under God has taken the lead and doors are opening. Please pray for the preparations for the upcoming America for Jesus-The Awakening on Independence Mall in Philadelphia, PA. One Nation under God and ministries across the United States are answering the call to prayer. and I are part of the America for Jesus team and honored to represent Teen Challenge.

8) Please send us your prayer requests and praise reports as we continue to stand with our partners worldwide: write to prayer@bgillott.org
9) Pray for workers for the Harvest ...Teen Challenge Centers in 91 countries need staff and we currently have invitations to start Teen Challenge in 32 nations. They are crying out for help. They need the power of God to meet a pressing social need... but we know it has a SPIRITUAL ROOT.
We offer SPIRITUAL RESOURCES to meet the need.
MATTHEW 9: 37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. 38 Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.” |
