Lausanne Conference on World Evangelization-Dallas
lAUZANNE logo
It was a delight to attend Texas Plenary session of The Lausanne Movement convened in preparation for the Third World Conference on World Evangelization in Cape Town, South Africa in October 2010. Over 300 conferees from 178 Agencies organizations and ministries across the USA gathered to pray, reflect, and prepare for the October meetings. The question remains, does the American Church have a prophetic voice, or do we just reflect the culture and model its practices?

The Texas Plenary sessions for Cape Town 2010 were dynamic, spiritually enriching, and personally challenging. After my time of Teen Challenge ministry in Argentina and to the prisoners in Penitenciaría Nacional de Tacumbú in Paraguay, the worship was stirring, fellowship inspiring, and I have returned home refreshed.
Cape Town will be a powerful meeting as 4,000 leaders from 200 countries will come together October 16-25, 2010. Carefully chosen from thousands of applicants, these leaders represent the demographic, theological and cultural realities of a global church.  Young and old, men and women, mission leaders, pastors and theologians, as well as Kingdom-minded leaders from the worlds of business, government, education, medicine and the media – the Congress is drawing the best minds and most creative and courageous leaders the church has to offer.
The meeting in Texas climaxed with a powerful communion service. Leadership encouraged every participant to "check egos at the door." It is amazing what God can do when we leave ego and logo behind. There is something people are searching for, a transcendent need that is not being met, because the church is busy "doing," not "being."
In addition to the 4000 leaders who will be on site in Cape Town, this Congress is providing a historic opportunity for people around the world to participate in Cape Town 2010 through the Internet-based Lausanne Global Conversation and Cape Town GlobaLink. It will be a my task to connect our Africa Centers to the Global Reach Evangelistic events across Africa.
Communion

Whenever, whatever, wherever, we are going, if it is of God, let us go there together.

Rick Warren

A highlight of the conference was the address of Rick Warren
The First International Congress on World Evangelization was held in Lausanne, Switzerland in 1974.  In response to a gathering of the World Council of Churches meeting in Edinburgh, it was a call to evangelicals who felt the cry for "integrity" to the call of Jesus to evangelize the world. Called by a committee headed by Rev. Billy Graham, it drew more than 2,300 evangelical leaders, from 150 countries. The gathering produced The Lausanne Covenant, a declaration that helped to define the necessity, responsibilities, and goals of spreading the Gospel.
In July, 1989, Lausanne II: International Congress on World Evangelization was convened in Manila, Philippines, Proclaim Christ until He Comes: Calling the Whole Church, to Take the Whole Gospel to the Whole World. Lausanne II in Manila played a significant role in a movement which stands for completing the task of world evangelization, for cooperation in that cause and for networking between evangelical leaders in that task.

FOCUS

2010

1) Pray for Haiti, for strength for the rescue workers, and wisdom for the pastors.
2) Please pray for Pastor Ann Giminez of Rock Church in Virginia Beach. She and her husband Bishop John Giminez (who recently went home to be with the Lord), founded Rock Church. It has been my privilege to serve them as they pioneered Washington For Jesus and other ministries that have changed the lives of thousands all across the globe. They wrote . . .

"Sister Ann had a pretty good night, the white blood count is down, so she is still responding to the antibiotics. She remains sedated, on dialysis and on the ventilator. She is able to breathe on her own, but the ventilator helps her rest. Pray for no set backs and for the cause of the infection to be revealed. The doctors expect her to remain in ICU for a week."
Please join the Rock Church family across the world as we pray praying for her complete healing, as well as comfort for her family during this challenging time.
3) SWAZILAND:
Edgar Chauque requests prayer for his wife, Lilly with a brain aneurysm ... After a week in the ICU, she has made some improvements already, and that prompted the neurosurgeons to put her in general ward. She still has severe headaches and is scheduled to undergo surgery TODAY. Please continue to pray with us for her complete restoration. Thanking you, in Him. Edgar!
4)VIRGINIA-SOUTH AFRICA
Please pray for Herman Viljoen-- Director of Eden Teen Challenge in South Africa has suffered a cardiac event and is awaiting catheterization in Johannesburg
5) Please pray for the Lausanne Council on World Evangelism USA In October and Mission Africa as we connect Global Resources and our Teen Challenge Centers in Africa for Evangelism.
6) Remember the powerful prison meeting I shared about from Liberia . . . THE TEAM IS RETURNING TO THE PRISON THIS WEEKEND. Please pray for the outreach there as they move forward. The government is coming to examine their new to complete certification.
7) Update from Steve Hill:
Bern,
Just wanted you to know that Jeri and I have been thanking God for you today. Truly we are so blessed to be a part of such an amazing church body. I've said it before, but THANK YOU for all of your many prayers and words of encouragement.  You don't know how much it means to have your support as I face these physical challenges.  God is good, and I'm grateful for all who are standing with us as we press on toward victory!
8) Please continue to pray for the Muslim we shared about last week who has become a believer. He was a heroin addict for 17 years, and he was brought to Teen Challenge by his father for help, he has been touched in an incredible and unusual way. He is currently in a safe house and has not used heroin for over a week. He has gained strength and health and is praising God for his deliverance, but we are still still at early stages. Do not share this on any web pages.
FOR security- this is a message to our closed family of intercessors. He is a descendant of Mohammed and his father is imam of 12 mosques.
9) Pray for workers for the Harvest ...Teen Challenge Centers in 86 countries need staff and we currently have invitations to start Teen Challenge in 43 nations. They are crying out for help. They need the power of God to meet a pressing social need... but we know it has a SPIRITUAL ROOT.
We offer SPIRITUAL RESOURCES to meet the need.
MATTHEW 9: 37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. 38 Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.”
