We must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away from it. For if the word spoken through angels proved unalterable and every transgression and disobedience received a just penalty, Hoe shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?

Imagine my surprise when I returned home from Poland to learn that a Federal Court judge in Virginia ruled 4 Commandments unconstitutional. Okay, not unconstitutional. District Judge Michael Urbaniak ordered mediation to seek a reasonable compromise, for a 10 Commandments display in Giles County, VA. Apparently he Federal Judge felt that the 4 commandments that referred to God were just not necessary

How far has America drifted to have a judge feeling a need to protect our children from Almighty God, and His subversive impact on upon impressionable high school students. Imagine the subversion, the insidious menace of high school students hearing of Him who created it and upon whom this Republic was built. What is the greatest danger? Is it the potential that they might break out in spontaneous obedience, good judgment, and wise decision? The judge approves of only 6 commandments -relational rules -but without the first 4 commandments that address the God who gives us the power to keep them. This is an extension of the failed humanistic policy of taking the Bible from students in school and then having ministries like Teen Challenge give them back to them in prison after incarceration. This philosophy has left a legacy of bondage, addiction, and death.

David Wilkerson often said, Everyone is entitled to their own opinion,
but no one is entitled to their own definition of truth.

Drifting is always the greatest threat to the life of a believer and by extension the greatest danger faced by the church. No one ever drifts toward God. Righteousness (right living) is intentional and demands the courage of someone willing to swim against the current.

You all know that I try to avoid politics here in Evotion, but a few weeks ago, when our president spoke out on his evolving views on the definition of marriage. I was silent and I am embarrassed. The president, in pseudo intellectual, misguided, self-righteous, humanistic arrogance concluded that God's definition of marriage in the book of Genesis . . . or the words of the apostle Paul in the book of Romans chapter 1 were not fully evolved. The pundits lauded his tolerance and enlightenment. Here in the United States there was a gentle chorus of disapproval, but if anyone listened, no one heard him, or at least they didn't seem to care. The following Sunday there was no outcry in the pulpit. There was no public outrage as the Church continues to drift from Truth silently, even when the definition of marriage, the mystery of Christ in the Church at the very core of creation, is attacked.

For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and the two shall be one flesh. 32This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Eph 5:31,32

Should it surprise us that a Federal judge here in Virginia decides for us, that the 10 commandments can be displayed in a public school only if you get rid of the first 4 that address God. These are enlightened times, a day of tolerance, a time of understanding. If we minimize God as sovereign in the church, the court's ruling should not surprise us. Not here in these days of "Christianity Lite," a savior without a Lord or Seeker Sensitivity where the focus is on the feelings and needs of the person seeking, rather than the legitimate demands of the ONE that they seek. The greatest danger of this hour is captured in the lyrics of a song by my old friend, the late Keith Green.

The world is sleeping in the dark, that the church just can't fight, cause we're asleep in the light.
How can we be so dead when we've been so well fed?

The answer is simple, in focusing on human needs, Christian clubs and Holy Huddles, we've drifted down the river of irrelevance. How can we expect the world to take the 10 Commandments seriously when it does not seem that we do. I wonder, as we read this, how many even know all 10 Commandments, and in the knowing, obey the call to abide by them? Or have we drifted that far?

It is really about so much more than 6 Commandments or even all 10. It is all about a relationship with the God of the universe who sent us His Son to ransom us, to save us from ourselves and own drifting delusions. Help us Lord to walk in your Truth. And help us to stand up for what's right, and to at least, get down and pray. Give us courage to swim into the current and overcome the drift. return to contents
