This has been a whirlwind trip home to the United States from South Africa, The Assemblies of God Potomac District Conference, National Day of Prayer, the 25th Anniversary of Long Island Teen Challenge in New York City and now here in Southern California for the "Moving Forward" Spiritual Emphasis at Southern California Teen Challenge.

We are very excited as we prepare to depart this week for Accra Ghana for the West Africa Teen Challenge Awareness conference, an event for denominational officials, interested senior leaders, and ministries who would consider starting a Teen Challenge in their part of West Africa. Our vision is to provide top level training on the establishment, operation, and sustainability of various types of Teen Challenge ministries.

Key Participants by Country: this meeting will have a focus on Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Togo, Ivory Coast, Rwanda and Benin, though the leaders have invited 16 other West Africa in an all-out assault on launching Teen Challenge centers in the region. Please pray for the participants. Some will travel days by bus over dangerous roadways, deal with challenging immigration issues. We are so grateful for their sacrifice to find a way to raise a front line strategy to impact West Africa for Jesus Christ and to bring the gospel to bear on this escalating drug pandemic.

~ ~ Swaziland ~ ~

When we first visited Teen Challenge Swaziland in 2001, it was a collection of four huts and a powerful street ministry. Under the direction of pioneer and Executive Director Kevin and Helen Ward, this ministry now has headquarters in Mbabane.

From those 4 huts is drawn to a thriving complex ministry points from Emafini to Ezulwini, Elusitweni, Hawane, and 16 centers in Bulembu with hundreds of studetns. Their home church, Potters Wheel is a cutting edge mulit-racial, multi cultural ministry impacting the nations,

If my people

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
IIChron 7:15 NIV

Join African leaders from a dozen different nations as they step up during our all Africa conference to pray for the United States. I am so grateful to have wonderful prayer partners like these men standing with us. Click for video

Having concentrated in prayer for America, at the end an invitation to come to the altar was extended and hundreds responded for healing, deliverance, freedom, and others rededicated the lives made a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and others committed to continue to intercede for our nation

GOD MOVE IN AMERICA, MORE
THAN THAT MOE IN MY HEART
Bern

Last week I joined with thousands of believers who gathered from the 7 major cities of Tidewater Virginia to seek God’s mercy for our nation. America needs a wake-up call–a spiritual awakening. Does that seem impossible? With God, nothing is impossible. He can even turn around the United States of America. No social or political change can take place until purity is restored and spiritual power is unleashed. Power follows purity.

Do we believe that's really a possibility or are we resigned to the notion that things are just going to get worse? We see the violence in our streets in cities like Baltimore and Ferguson and we wonder, "Will our streets ever be safe again?" \

In 1982, President Ronald Reagan said, "We can't have it both ways. We can't expect God to protect us in a crisis and just leave Him over there on the shelf in our day-to-day living. I wonder if sometimes He isn't waiting for us to wake up."

People, horrified by images of acts of terror by Boko Haram, ISIS and other terror groups, merely change the channel. Now, as the sound of terrorist gunshots resound in Texas, we still do not seem to wake up. The nuclear threats from Iran and North Korea who vow to destroy us move our emotions to fear, but do not move our hearts to pray.

We can look at enemies on the outside, but we would be wise to look within. As billions are poured into failed social programs, the rejection of God, breakdown of the family and specifically fatherless households are a significant root of our social ills.

  • 63% of youth suicides are from fatherless homes.
  • 90% of all homeless and runaway children are from fatherless homes.
  • 85% of all youths sitting in prisons grew up in a fatherless home.
  • A majority of children born in the US are now born out of wedlock.

We have wandered so far from truth that now the Supreme Court is deciding if they should strike down the biblical definition of marriage as, in Godless arrogance, they rule on the absolutes set forth in God’s word. Peter Marshall, former chaplain to the US Senate, once said, "The choice before us is plain: Christ or chaos, conviction or compromise, discipline or disintegration."

The most important thing to remember here is that Israel was never defeated because their enemy was too strong. Defeat came at their own hands through sin, disobedience or carelessness. They took the blessing of God for granted or even thought that their own strength or merit worth their blessings.  We desperately need a spiritual awakening in America–a nationwide revival.

The prophet Habakkuk understood this when he prayed, "I have heard all about You, Lord, and I am filled with awe by the amazing things You have done. In this time of our deep need, revive Your work, as You did in years gone by. Show us Your power to save us. And in Your anger, remember Your mercy" (Habakkuk 3:2).

LONG ISLAND TEEN CHALLENGE
CELEBRATES 25 YEARS

When God delivered Jimmy Jack from addiction God led him to Brooklyn Teen Challenge. Following his graduation he and Miriam completed Bible college and God called them back to pioneer a powerful ministry with Long Island Teen Challenge which is reached around the world internationally. Now with a powerful staff team led by Willie and Anna Ramos they continue to reach out.

Mariano Rivera headlined a powerful night of ministry at a Tremendous 25th Anniversary for Long Island Teen Challenge,--Called "the Sandman," Mariano Rivera is the MLB's career leader in saves (652) and games finished (952).--BIT Now he is concentrating on SAVES that matter- ministering Salvation. A major league pitcher, he was the Yankees' closer for 17 seasons, a 13 time All-Star & 5 -time World Series champion, now he is pioneering a church in New Rochelle.

As wonderful as it was to meet a Hall of Fame pitcher like Mariano Rivera, the great honor of the night was to spend time with brother Don Wilkerson, the co founder of Teen Challenge, He personally discipled Pastor Jimmy and Miriam and has been a wonderful blessing in Cathy's and my life. It was so exciting to see all of the heroes of outreach that are a part of the international work of Long Island TC as they reach around the world through crusades, Dominican Republic Teen Challenge & Rock the Block Urban Evangelism across America. I I am so disappointed that as busy as the night was with technical and video, we never did get to take picture with Pastor Jimmy Jack and Miriam, who, th9ugh Jesus are the heroes of the story

Reuben(Left) was a member of the TC choir in the 80s. He has ministered with me internationally in Britain and Cuba and now 30 yeasts later he is Mariano Rivera's associate pastor.

We will join Jimmy Jack and Ramon for Rock the Block in New Rochelle New York in July of this year and minister at his church.
~ HAPPY MOTHERS DAY, CATHY ~

Over 40 years ago I met the most incredible woman in the World.
I fell madly in love and married Cathy Voinchet. I knew she would be a wonderful life partner, But I had no idea what an amazing wife and mother she would be ... not only to our four children but to men and women around the world for the ministry at Teen Challenge.

This year we were apart on Mothers day, she was in Florida, I in New York City on ministry. The flowers I sent could in no way communicate what she means to me. While I missed her terribly I'm grateful she was with our daughter being the typical supermom is Becky prepares to have her first baby (grandchild 8) Cathy and I are together today and headed back to Africa
