Help is arriving for people in Concepción, Chile!

We've received word from our friend and missionary colleague, Mike Files. His Convoy of Hope team is in Concepción, Chile. Although brief, his report is encouraging. Thousands of pounds of food & supplies are being provided in a hard hit area. Pastor Victor Burgos is a long time friend, and his dramatic testimony touches our hearts.

AN UPDATE AND PRAISE REPORT

FROM CONCEPCIÓN, CHILE

Good evening from Concepción, Chile!

Answers to Prayer:

1. With so many gas stations closed - we praise God that we found the diesel and gas that we needed to fill up our trucks before entering Concepción.

2. We entered the city looking for a special pass for free passage throughout the region at all times of the day. Without knowing how to find the military base, within seconds of entering the city we were 2 blocks from the base. After waiting over an hour in line we received passes for 3 vehicles for 1 week each.

With our new passes we started towards the first Assemblies of God church where we were going to distribute food. Pastor Victor Burgos, was standing at the front of the gate almost as if he was waiting for us.

Due to no phone service and lack of transportation - he had not been able to speak to the majority of his church members or anyone from the Assemblies of God since the earthquake.

Through donations from Convoy of Hope and the Assemblies of God, we were able give him cases of cooking oil, rice, noodles, beans and tea - he said, "Brother Mike we literally had nothing more to eat. My wife had sent me to search for food and I had come home with nothing. We had no more cooking oil and almost no food and we didn't know what we were going to do."

All of this food would be given out to the people in his community. The reality is that every single grocery store that we passed on the way to this church had been totally looted and most had been destroyed by fire.  With tears he said "thank you so much for being here with us and for this help."

We then visited the church of Pastor Daniel Reinoso in the center of Concepción. Next to the church we found his home totally destroyed (see attached picture).   The church is in good shape. At least 4 families from the church had their homes destroyed and are now living in the church.

Please pray for God's mercy, provision, and grace for Chile.   Please pray for our safety today as we deliver food and a word of hope to 2 more churches. These churches are located in 2 of the most affected areas.

Finally, please pray for our safety & for the people of Chile! To buy a small amount of basic food the people are waiting in lines that at times are over 3 blocks long.

Today, as people were leaving the grocery store with what they had just bought there were several instances of thieves waiting outside and stealing their food. Please pray for the safety of our Chilean brethren that are helping us by driving 6 hours one way to bring us large quantities of basic foods.

Recibimos noticias de nuestro amigo y colega misionero, Mike Files. Ha llegado con un equipo de Convoy de Esperanza a la ciudad de Concepción, Chile. Aunque breve, su noticia es animadora. Miles de kilos de comida y insumos están siendo provistos en una area que ha sido muy afectada. Pastor Victor Burgos, un amigo de hace mucho tiempo, esta mencionado. Respuestas a la Oración

1. Con tantas gasolineras cerradas - damos gracias a Dios que encontramos el diesel y gasolineras necesarias para llenar los tanques de nuestros camiones antes de entrar a Concepción.

2. Entramos a la ciudad buscando un permiso de transito para poder acceder a la región a cualquier hora del día. Sin saber cómo encontrar la base militar, dentro de segundos de entrar a la ciudad nos encontramos a dos cuadras de la base.

Después de haber esperado por más de una hora recibimos permisos para 3 vehículos por una semana cada uno. Con nuestros permisos nuevos nos dirigimos hacia la primera iglesia Asambleas de Dios donde íbamos distribuir comida.

El Pastor Víctor Burgos estaba delante de la reja como si nos hubiera estado esperando. Por falta de servicio telefónico y transporte, no se había podido comunicar con la mayoría de su congregación, ni otros creyentes desde que ocurrió el terremoto.

Por medio de las donaciones de Convoy de Esperanza y la Asambleas de Dios, pudimos proveerle cajas de aceite, arroz, fideos, porotos (fríjoles) y te. El dijo "Hermano Mike, literalmente no nos quedaba nada para comer. Mi esposa me mando a buscar comida y regrese a casa con las manos vacilas. No tuvimos aceite, casi nada de comida, y no sabíamos que íbamos a hacer."

Entregamos toda la comida que tuvimos a la gente en su vecindad. La realidad es que cada supermercado que habíamos pasado había sido saqueado y la mayoría habían sido quemados. Con lagrimas nos dijo "Muchísimas gracias por estar con nosotros y por esta ayuda."

De allí visitamos la iglesia del pastor Daniel Reinoso en el centro de Concepción. Al lado de la iglesia encontramos su casa completamente destruida. La iglesia está en buen estado. Por lo menos cuatro familias de su iglesia perdieron sus casas y ahora están viviendo en la iglesia.

Rogamos sus oraciones para misericordia y gracia para Chile.

Por favor, oren por nuestra seguridad mientras que entregamos más comida y palabras de esperanzas para la gente en dos iglesias más. Estas iglesias se encuentran en dos de las aéreas mas afectadas.

Finalmente, por favor, oren por la seguridad y paz de la gente de Chile. Para poder comprar una pequeña cantidad de comida se necesita esperar en una cola de casi tres cuadras.

Hoy, al salir de la tienda, después de haber esperado horas, varios fueron asaltados y robados de su comida. Entonces oren para la seguridad de nuestros hermanos Chilenos que están viajando seis horas varias veces al día para traernos cantidades grandes de comida.
