BOMBAY TEEN CHALLENGE

CELEBRATING 20 YEARS OF MIRACLES IN INDIA

Dr Nance
As K.K. Deveraj and the team from Bombay Teen Challenge looked back on two decades of ministry in India, luminaries and leaders from around the world joined them to celebrate. Dr. Jerry Nance Pres/CEO of Global Teen Challenge presented a certificate of recognition on behalf of GTC and the 1070 Teen Challenge centers in 82 nations around the world.

daughters of the light
Laides of the light
These girls, once victims of human trafficking, sexual slavery and prostitution were women of the night, now because of Jesus Christ,
they are a shining testimony of God's grace ... daughters of the light!
It all began when K..K.Deveraj, a young, successful oil exec in Lebanon, encountered the gospel. He left the security of his career to attend Bible college in India.  After graduating he sought God for direction. He found his calling walking through the Kamathipura district of Bombay India. Five blocks with 100,000 drug addicts, 30,000 prostitutes and overwhelming need. He bought a one-way ticket to Bombay and God birthed a powerful ministry that now impacts hundreds of student and thousands of lives. The ministry of Bombay TC brings the light. Their success is not measured in the thousands, but by each individual here rescued and every life changed.

Bombay Teen Challenge has over a dozen centers and outreaches. Their feeding programs, free medical and dental care, and AIDS intervention team are models for the United Nation that impact the  entire nation of India with 1.3 billion people. Children like the boy on the left, find new life and the power of prayer at Jeevan Jyoti Center. Bombay Teen Challenge has become a thoroughly enmeshed in the fabric of the community. Evangelists come and god to collect "decisions." TC does not do "raids," they build relationships.

STOP SEXUAL SLAVERY NOW

Global luminaries lit the night for the nationally televised global launch of Stop Sexual Slavery (SSS) at the 20th Anniversary Bombay Teen Challenge Banquet. Key international leaders, from Hamish Dodds, Pres. & CEO of Hard Rock Cafe, to Sir Ewan Harper addressed this 200 billion dollar industry, a critical growing global menace, and celebrated the continued success of of TC in Mumbai.

A 12 YEAR OLD GIRL CLUTCHES HER TINY WOODEN DOLL, HER KNUCKLES WHITE AND HER BREATH TAKEN AWAY BY THE BRUTALITY OF A MAN WHO MERCILESSLY RAPES HER. A RIGHT PURCHASED FOR LESS THAN THE PRICE OF A MEAL...AND THE DAY IS JUST BEGINNING FOR LITTLE REKHA.

Kamathipura ~~~DARKNESS CAN HIDE THE CRIME, BUT NOT THE TRUTH~~~
This tragedy happens daily a thousand times over in any of a number of elite cities of Asia ... BOMBAY: Little girls like Rekha are stripped off their innocence, tortured, beaten and raped in the recesses of Kamathipura, Mumbai. A place so dark and mired in sexual slavery even the pimps feel the cold shiver of brutality the girls have to endure. Over 700,000 women, from 8 year old innocent girls to 25 year-old veterans are victims of sex trafficking worldwide. An industry with an estimated $200 billion in cash revenue. That’s a lot of little girls and women crying out. It’s time we did something. It’s time to stop sexual slavery.

We experienced Kamithapura first-hand as we walked the streets and visited the shelters where the silent victims of human trafficking, the children of the ladies are cared for by Bombay Teen Challenge

Bern Prayz
After ministering to the boys at the shelter, I was blessed when they offered to pray for me. As they gathered around and laid their hands upon me I was touched by their passion and honest concern as they prayed for "Bernie Uncle." I trust this brief album will touch your heart to pray.

After Pastor and Dave and Sherry visited the shelters we went to the AIDS CLINIC, the dental clinic, saw the feeding van and spoke to the driver of the TC Ambulance that drives around to pick the dead ...bodies from the street in Kamathipura (34 last month). Pray for these valiant workers, pray for the girls.

CHENNAI - DELHII - to Agra - to LUCKNOW, NORTH INDIA

We are safely home, grateful for your prayers as we return from travel on four continents and 40 days ... 17 flights, 34 check in/check out, 100 security checks, innumerable pat downs and luggage searches, but we still have the victory and a heart filled with Thanksgiving. We are not just grateful for all we have and friends like you,
. . . but even more, the One who has given it all.

Thankful TO . . .
or thankful FOR

Psalm 136:1, "Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His lovingkindness is everlasting."
With each passing year, it seems like Thanksgiving Day gets less and less recognition. Rather than the centerpiece for the fall culminating in Christmas, it has become a placeholder between Halloween and the generic "holiday" season.
What was once the defining event of every autumn, the day we came together to rejoice for our many blessings, is now just another day off. The true significance displaced by commercialism and shopping, punctuated by football games and "holiday parades." Is it part of the post modern cultural shift from gratitude to entitlement? After all, it makes little sense to celebrate and give thanks for all we've been blessed with, when our culture communicates that it is all owed to us in the first place. We'd rather just jump from one "gimme fest" to another.

~ NEW LIFE CHENNAI ~-
Cathy and I were honored to minister at the 30,000 member New Life Church in Tamil Nadu Provence with our pastors from Calvary in Hampton, Dave and Sheri Highlander. Pastor Mohan, the Senior Pastor and General Superintendent of A/G in India is a man of tremendous vision, They are impacting tens of thousands of Muslims and Hindu lives.

Psalms uses the words "thanks" "thankful" and "thanksgiving" 31 times. In the New Testament, with 50 occurrences of "thanks" and related words, we find Paul's injunction "always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the father" (Eph. 5:20).

Unfortunately, in the current cultural environment, even when we take time to "reflect", on our blessings, our focus is on what we are THANKFUL FOR, not who we are THANKFUL TO. The scripture makes 2 commands. It is not enough to be thankful FOR, until we know WHO we are thankful TO!

Cathy & I ministered at the Saturday Healing and Miracles service on the 45 acre property that will house the new 50,000 seat sanctuary. They have erected a temporary structure in this radical Hindi and Muslim Community and are engaging them at their point of need.
altar At the packed altars we saw God healing and touching lives in a powerful way. Over 100 received Jesus. We could not count those who came for healing and we look forward to hearing the testimonies from Pastor Rufus as they are reported. New Life

ground breaking
Four years ago we gathered to pray and break ground for this Lucknow building. Now this beautiful building houses dining, chapel and is the launching pad for the new 100 bed facility. Dr. Varghese has a ground-breaking ministry, ministering to Hindus, Muslims and even men coming from psychiatric wards.

We also visited Delhi and Agra. We visited the Taj Mahal on the second day of the Muslim festival of Eid El Hada, They celebrate the end of Hajj and Abraham's willingness to sacrifice Ishmael (not Isaac) on Mount Moriah. Outside Nepal, as we traveled to Agra we saw an influx of tens of thousand of Muslims. This train seemed crowded so we decided not to take it.

There is an exciting new work developing in Delhi. The founder and pioneer Brice Maddock has put together a tremendous team. Located is West Delhi, with prevention, drug counseling and evangelism. . .  80% of men in the community are into some sort of addiction. Students are moving that direction and they believe the gospel can-change that direction. Pray for Delhi.

E-VOTION . . . THANKSGIVING
Returning from Africa and India, it is easy to see how abundance is so ingrained within us that we no longer treat our possessions as though they belong to God. Materialism doesn't seem as much of a sin as it once did when churches often spend more on buildings, technology, and marketing than we ever give to the poor or missions.

A thankful heart triples our blessings. We can enjoy them three times. First, when we receive them, then when we remember them and finally when we Celebrate the one who gave them. If we take the time to reflect on the good things we do have, and thank Him, we can avoid the wasted time complaining about the things we do not have.

The idea that Christianity is another form of entertainment is perfectly ridiculous." A.W. Tower
